WHAT'S NEW

The Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Act 2000 was proclaimed on 1 October 2009. This new legislation has enabled Petroleum Exploration Licences (PELs) resulting from the the CO2009 acreage release to have two renewal terms (under the previous legislation only one term was possible). PELs resulting from the CO2009 acreage release will include petroleum exploration rights but will not include geothermal and gas storage rights.
